Vehicle & Driving Guide

The car is Route 06’s mobile base. OutLaik modeled the loop after road-trip horrors like The Long Drive and Dead Rails: you spawn beside a beat-up vehicle, drive procedurally generated Route 06, loot structures, and only reach the military outpost (~4,500–4,600 m) efficiently if the car survives. Walking is technically possible but wastes trunk logistics and stretches nights unbearably. This guide covers seats, fuel, trunk flow, crash rules, and co-op driver etiquette.

Starting the run

When the round begins, the car spawns next to your squad. Enter the driver seat to start the engine — see Controls for F / proximity prompts. Passengers can sit immediately; looters often stay on foot for the first structure while the driver keeps the engine warm.

Assign roles early: one driver, one trunk manager, others structure looters. Route 06 has no ping system — voice comms beat silent solo looting.

Driving basics

  • W / S — accelerate and reverse.
  • A / D — steer; high-speed impacts damage the car and ragdoll the driver (~15 HP in current alpha builds).
  • Handbrake (if bound) — tight turns at the cost of convoy speed.

Zombies on the road can be run over, but Boomers explode on vehicle contact. Call “Boomer on hood” before the driver commits — toxic clouds hurt passengers who bail late.

Fuel management

Fuel is a hard gate. Running dry mid-segment forces melee holds in the open. C4RL always sells a gas can filled to 50% for Coins during the 90-second shop window — budget for it every stop.

Loot gas when structures offer it, but prioritize selling valuables first if Coins are tight. Checkpoints & C4RL explains sell bonuses and vending prices.

Trunk storage

The trunk is shared team inventory on wheels. Interact at the rear latch, move bulky valuables from personal backpacks into trunk slots, and sell in bulk at C4RL instead of dropping items mid-combat.

Best practice: fill trunk during structure clears; one player handles sales at checkpoints while others buy ammo and bandages.

Car teleport at checkpoints

If the car lagged behind during a loot detour, C4RL offers a teleport button that pulls the vehicle forward for $10–$50+ Coins scaling with distance. Mis-clicks drain shared economy — confirm in voice before pressing.

Only teleport when the fee is cheaper than backtracking through Sprinters or a night segment.

Passenger vs driver combat

Passengers can shoot from windows in many alpha builds, but the driver should focus on road clearance. When the team exits for structures, leave the engine running if Sprinters patrol unless stealth matters.

Frontliners like William exit first to absorb Charger rushes; Backliners like Clayton cover the trunk lane.

Night driving with Plague

After checkpoint one, Plague hunts at night. Cars are not invulnerable shelters — Plague can grab players who burn stamina during loot transitions.

Strategies:

  • Finish structure loot before dusk when possible.
  • Circle the car while passing Plague aggro — see Survive Plague.
  • Keep Bloxy Cola in trunk stock for emergency sprints to the driver seat.

Solo vs co-op scaling

Solo drivers juggle every role — expect slower C4RL sales and tighter fuel math. Co-op allows dedicated driver + three looters + support (Stella / Alan).

Outpost finale still requires 2 generators solo versus up to 6 at five players — read Military Outpost before your first extraction attempt.

Common mistakes

  • Hard turning at max speed — driver ragdoll opens the team to Sprinters.
  • Running over Boomers without warning passengers.
  • Empty trunk at C4RL — personal inventories clog during Sprinter retreats.
  • Teleport spam — burns Coins needed for Kimberly abilities or vending.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can you beat Route 06 without the car?

Walking to the outpost is possible but extremely slow. You lose trunk storage and practical co-op loot flow.

Does crashing hurt the driver?

Yes. Hard impacts ragdoll the driver and deal damage (~15 HP in current alpha reports).

Where do I buy fuel?

C4RL always stocks a 50% gas can during checkpoint shops. Some structures also spawn fuel loot.
